The 2026 Arnie Sweet Scholar-In-Residence Lecture Series

Named The Most Influential Pulpit Rabbi in America by Newsweek, and one of the 50 Most Influential Jews in the World by the Jerusalem Post, Congregation Anshai Torah is honored to announce that Rabbi David Wolpe will be our Arnie Sweet Lecture Series Scholar-In-Residence, this coming February 2026.

Meet Rabbi David Wolpe

Named The Most Influential Pulpit Rabbi in America by Newsweek, and one of the 50 Most Influential Jews in the World by the Jerusalem Post – and twice named one of the 500 Most Influential People in Los Angeles by the Los Angeles Business Journal, David Wolpe is the Max Webb Senior Rabbi of Sinai Temple in Los Angeles. He also serves as the Anti-Defamation League’s inaugural rabbinic fellow and a scholar in residence at the Maimonides Fund.

Rabbi Wolpe previously taught at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in New York, the American Jewish University in Los Angeles, Hunter College, and University of California, Los Angeles.

Rabbi Wolpe has published widely, including in The New York Times,  Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, TIME, Newsweek and The Atlantic. He has been featured on “TODAY,”  “Face the Nation,” “ABC This Morning,” and “CBS This Morning.” In addition, Rabbi Wolpe has appeared prominently in series on PBS, A&E, The History Channel, and the Discovery Channel, and has engaged in widely watched public debates with Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, Steven Pinker and many others about religion and its place in the world.

Rabbi Wolpe is the author of eight books, including the national bestseller  “Making Loss Matter: Creating Meaning in Difficult Times.”  His most recent book,  “David, the Divided Heart,” was a finalist for the National Jewish Book Awards, and has been optioned for a movie by Warner Bros.

About the Arnie Sweet Scholar-in-Residence Lecture Series

Now in its 14th year, the Arnie Sweet Scholar-In-Residence program at Anshai Torah is held in memory of Arnie Sweet, who was a greatly admired leader of the Dallas Jewish community for many years.

Last year in 2025, Canadian-Israeli journalist Matti Friedman was our Arnie Sweet Lecture Series Scholar-In-Residence. Mr. Friedman is the award-winning author of four works of non-fiction and focused on the powerful topic about Israel - Perception and Reality, Then and Now.
