Congregation Anshai Torah Men’s Club Youth Scholarship

Applications are now being accepted for the Congregation Anshai Torah Men’s Club Youth Scholarship. The Scholarship is a fund which assists young Anshai Torah congregants towards having meaningful Jewish experiences.

In 2022/2023, Men's Club will award at least $13,000 in scholarship money for qualifying events. Scholarships are funded by Men’s Club, Sisterhood, Hazak, and by the discretionary funds of Rabbis Weinberg & Kushnick. Scholarships are available on the basis of both financial need and personal merit.

Terms and policies for the scholarship program can be found here. Please review them before applying.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be the child of a current member of Congregation Anshai Torah.
  • Applicants can be either age 17 or younger (on June 1, 2023,) or a senior in high school for the 2022 / 2023 school year.
  • Children of Men’s Club Scholarship Committee members are excluded.

Qualifying Activities

Applicant must show plans to attend a camp, program, mission or trip activity that has a distinctly Jewish character, taking place between November 1, 2022 and October 31, 2023. Activities can include, but are not limited to: Jewish day camps, overnight camps, field trips, educational experiences, Hebrew study, Jewish youth group conferences, trips or missions.

The Men’s Club Scholarship Committee will make final determination of an activity’s qualification for scholarship award. All determinations of eligibility by the Men’s Club Scholarship Committee will be final.

If there is any doubt as to the eligibility of a potential camp or activity, please just go ahead and apply. To discuss further, please contact the Scholarship Committee chairman

While any Jewish activity is eligible for consideration, the committee will give preference to those programs
most closely supporting Anshai Torah’s core values. These include kosher food, Shabbat observance, egalitarian tefillah, and support of Israel.

Preference will also be given to programs directly affiliated with Anshai Torah or the United Synagogues of Conservative Judaism (USCJ). These are: programs offered through United Synagogue Youth (USY) such as USY on Wheels or USY Summer or USY Israel; programs offered through USCJ’s Ramah movement such as Ramah camps or Israel missions.

About Men's Club:

Anshai Torah Men's Club is an auxiliary organization of the synagogue whose objective is to provide opportunities for social interaction for our members.  We seek to involve our members in fun and fulfilling activities that will benefit the synagogue and be of service to our community.

We have monthly meetings in the synagogue, usually on the third Sunday of the month, beginning at 9:00 AM.  Watch the synagogue announcements and weekly emails for specific dates.  We serve bagels, muffins, fruit, juice and coffee, and, while we nosh, we have a short business meeting where we discuss upcoming events and new activity ideas.  Many of our meetings also include short programs.

Throughout the year the Men's Club:

  • Holds fun and educational events such as Scotch-Tasting Seder or our annual inaugural Beer Tasting
  • Helps out with High Holiday ushering and handles the construction and subsequent dismantling of the congregation's sukkah
  • Our Sunday afternoon Football in the Sukkah is a great annual event!
  • Fries all of the latkes for the shul's Chanukah celebration
  • Purchases and delivers Yom Ha Shoah candles for the entire congregation
  • Supports the annual Weinberg Family Golf Classic benefiting the Men's Club Scholarship Fund
  • Holds games nights, bike rides, movie nights, and other social activities
